J Hus - Alien Girl

In collaboration with Picnic Studio, I was part of a small team that created two interconnected films for a dual music video experience for J Hus's track "Alien Girl" from the critically acclaimed album ‘Beautiful and Brutal Yard (B.A.B.Y)’.

Commissioned by Black Butter, the original concept was to vary the colour palette or grade of the same performance. Instead, Picnic envisioned a narrative of two entangled hearts from different worlds making the same journey in sync. The story follows a sexually repressed boy in a world of anxiety and brutalist visions, and a sexually liberated alien girl in a mirror world of positive pleasure. Driven by longing, they embark on a fantastical journey to find each other, culminating in the creation of a new world. The result is two videos with identical shots, actions, and edits, yet distinctively unique in their storytelling.

As the compositor, my role was to bring together the various 2D, 3D, and animated elements to create a seamless and cohesive visual experience. Picnic partnered with PARTIZAN for the production, and PSSSSD LABS developed a website portal where viewers can watch both videos simultaneously and create their own edits.
